So dumb question about a pelican

It literally reminded me of the old samsonite commercial with the gorilla throwing a suitcase around!

I wonder if denatured alcohol would work to potentially clean off any bonding agent then maybe rough it up with some light grit sandpaper as well?

A couple others have mentioned chemicals to remove the mold release agent-I recommend odorless mineral spirits-but the concept is the same
I am also a lover of stickers.
. .

If you bought an SKS you wouldn't be having this Problem

I’ll get mine done it’s new when I get back from holiday and have a test run with stickers and tape then wipe a few areas and try again. Im sure that it won’t hurt the outside of it.

This may sound too intense, but in the outdoors in an open concrete area, safely go over the case with a hand torch. This will burn off some of the petroleum-based mold releasing agents and smooth out some of the micro flaws in the case giving it a smoother surface area.

Silly me. I like birding and saw the title and clicked on this to see what you wanted to know. Dead serious. I guess I need more coffee.

:X3: :coffee:
Haha - This thread caught my eye several times for the same reason. I have a lot of pelican cases so, after a second or two, I realized what it was about. I finally opened it just to make sure.

Are you putting gun company stickers on your case? I've been told that is an invitation to have baggage "mishandled" purposely by anti-hunting/guns baggage apes. One fella I know put musical instrument sticker on his gun case. Yamaha I think. Not sure how helpful the disguise is if the gun case has to be tagged as a firearm by security at checkin. Why do they do that anyway? Are guns stored in a special place in the plane?

For permanent ID I attached a brass plaque with machine screws and nuts to my Pelican Vault.

I use duct tape to secure the locks against the case. If they get caught on other baggage there's a potential to damage my case or someone else's luggage. But I wrap the tape all the way around the case and onto itself so no problems making it stick. I used red duct tape but a certain security inspector at Joberg airport took a shine to it and simply confiscated the roll right in front of me. Next time I will use the ugly gray stuff and put an extra roll in my checked bag. Note the locks are attached upside down. Easier to get the key into them when I can see the slot. The duct tape goo is easily removed with WD-40 and a paper towel.

I actually had a metal name plate riveted to my last case. I’ve heard the horror stories about the gun stickers as well but my old case was covered with them. Really the worst damage was a bent hasp and a bunch of scrapes from the baggage conveyor.

Yeah - I'm not sure how you get a pelican to sit still long enough to put a sticker on it. Not sure I want to try. :ROFLMAO:
You might try a contact cement on each sticker and the case where it goes. it would fill in the bumps on the case.
i'll help, sounds like fun

Ah hah! So it will look like a steamer trunk from the 1800s that’s been around the world three times. Or as often seen in lift lines at big ski areas… jackets with 27 old lift tickets dangling :):) Got it..

Not much sticks to that type polymer, so old looking travel stickers won’t stay on. What a thing to worry about. Plus I wouldn’t get too carried away no matter the motive— enough luggage gets lost as is. No need to confuse the baggage handlers/scanners any more than necessary. Years ago I chose the tan colored Pelican for a reason. To personalize and to ID at a distance, I just spray painted a red ring around its middle. Easy for me to spot and won’t confuse baggage sorters. :)

You know, thinking about this… Have you thought about trying adhesion promoter like you use when painting plastic maybe spray a coat of adhesion promoter first and then put your sticker on. You can buy a pretty cheap in an aerosol and it’s usually clear.

So I finally had time to start on my gun case. So, certain stickers will not stick at all! I just said to hell with it and got out some masking tape, a few pics and some paint. I did use a “fusion” paint and by god that will stick! I know the paint won’t last due to the baggage handlers but it will look cool as I walk into the airport!

The title of this thread greatly mislead me. I was expecting questions on how to stalk, clean and cook large seabird. And if a .458 WM would be too much.
My old Cajun friends said that a pelican is rotten by the time it hits the ground and that’s about the only thing they wouldn’t eat!

I have just purchased 2 Pelican Vault V770 rifle cases for an up & cumming hunting trip , great products,
i spray painted on my details with a stencil, i masked off a area & it cleaned with acetone & a scotch brite pad & sprayed the area with a product that allows paint to adhere to plastic . paint stuck like shi### to a blanket.

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.

Hello:
I’ll take the .375 Whitworth for $1,150 if the deal falls through.
Thanks .
