SOUTH AFRICA: Unnerving Situation With Rhinocon Anton Bakker

Ardent,

Forgive me if I missed it in the thread, but have you received the money back from Theo that he still holds? You've stated that you trust him, but not that the money has come back. Again, unless I missed it.

The focus here has been on rhinocon, and rightfully so, but if there are still delays with the money from Theo that is also something I would want to know as it would be enough to keep me from considering using him in the future.

Sorry again that you have had to go through all of this.

Royal, read the below post, Ardent has lost his ass and is trying to recoup losses by selling his Holland. Very sad.

I see that now....

I guess my question is still the same though as from reading this thread Theo (the agent) had a large portion of the money that was going to be returned, but it now sounds like it has not been.

Perhaps there are still proceedings under way that prevent further revelations at this point.

Anton and his son appeared in court a couple days ago, and they are out on bail for defrauding Russian clients with Rhino hunts, to the value of around $400 000.

This case will take some time. (I thank my dear friend Protas for his relay of info)

Something tells me that they'll start stockpiling condoms.

It's shit heads like these that gives good operators a bad name, it is for this exact reason that we are treated like crooks on so many occasions.

As for the outstanding funds I would pressure the crap out of Theo (no matter how nice he is) as per other threads I understood that this would be the recourse one has when booking through an agent...

My best

Jaco, any details on which court he attended?

SO HE HAS BEEN CHARGED WITN FRAUD.
NO MORE SMOKE, IT'S A FIRE!!!!!

I wonder how many "new friends" can be arranged from Russia! Quite a few I'd bet.

Both Anton and his son appeared in Bela-Bela (warmbaths) magistrates court on a charge of Fraud for defrauding Russian based clients on Rhino hunts in particular.

Both were granted bail.

Thanks for the update.

Good to know the cogs of justice are moving......however slowly they may turn.(y)

It seems odd that as an agent Theo paid the entire funds, including trophy fee (if I understand the circumstances correctly) to Rhinocon prior to the hunt and prior to a trophy being taken.

Being Russian clients, I wonder if stockpiling condoms are the main thing they are concerned with.

Thank you Jaco.
I have now contacted the Chief Justice of the Magistrates Court in Bela Bela to request the public details of this matter.
I hope the Court replies and I'll share the further details if they arrive in my inbox.

If there are any other lurkers who may have fallen victim and would like to add their fuel to the bonfire under these guys here are the contact details for the court.

If I was going to defraud people, I'm not sure I'd start with Russians. Does your average Russian sue you when you defraud him . . . or pay you a visit? Just asking.

Any news on Theo in all of this, or is he still just an "innocent bystander" who was misled by these crooks (and others it seems).

Body armor might be a better choice.

:E Red Hot: I hope they pay them a visit if they cheated me out of that much money then I want more then them in jail I want their hide on the wall.:W Sniper:

Thank you, I'm very indebted for the continuing news.

Bit of a segway but I've decided to use this as the motivation to move forward and we're starting a new 3,000 sq mile/ 5,000 sq km hunting operation on the north coast of British Columbia. I dream of Africa but I these events have fired me to recognize where I'm from and focus on the business for now. So this situation has ended my fun, and fast forwarded my determination to succeed here on the home front.

If you stay focused you'll be successful so the end to the fun will only be temporary! :A Way To Go:

Thanks Brushmore, plan is to donate a mountain goat hunt to AH for one of the contests once we're in a position we can afford to. There are a hell of a lot of good people here.

I'm a big believer that God has a plan for each of us that is better than anything that we could imagine on our own. May this new adventure be part of yours.

Wish you the best with your new project, Ardent !

Thanks guys. This whole mess and dissapointment was a kick in the butt to focus on home for awhile.

Wish you the best in your new venture. What species will be the best to target in the new area? Make sure and post hunts here.

All the best on getting your money back from Bakker.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
