Still considering Africa….

But I may need to rethink this site…. Since the first of the year , I’ve purchased a new rifles, two pair Jim Green boots, a pair of quad shooting sticks, and two new rifle scopes….

Y’all are a bad influence!
Have not even begun to catch up to the crowd. Keep it up, you'll get there. :E Rofl:

Are you confessing or bragging? This is the wrong place to be if you think you have enough hunting equipment and/or guns

Yep, I was thinking you got off easy CBeck :E Lol:

But no worries, it will get much, much worse :A Gathering:

Now, more seriously, here is the dirty secret: much safari kit is purchased as a psychological compensation in lieu of going on safari. While some equipment is (supposedly) genuinely necessary, e.g. a DG caliber rifle to hunt DG, everything else can be done in Africa with common deer / elk hunting equipment. And one could even emphasize that buying a DG rifle to shoot 2 or 5 DG in a lifetime is a bad investment compared to renting a rifle in Africa.

It is said that smarter people buy nothing and go on safari instead.....................

(It is also murmured by rifle makers that most DG caliber double rifles never actually go to Africa. I suspect that this might be true..........)

And where’s the fun in that?

ONE new rifle? LOL. Say, there's a couple of Blaser R8s and barrels here for sale and I'm sure more forthcoming. You need to take a look at those before contemplating an African Safari. Just saying. LOL

Yep, that is the point indeed. Preparing your first safari for 2 years and getting everything perfect is indeed as much pleasure as the safari itself. I know it was for me, and after many safaris it still is. It sure beats watching the stupid box and getting our intelligence insulted daily...

lol!!! This group got me to buy 7 DRs and pursue the Bug 5 which I hope I will finish this year…and it all started with a very inexpensive rent their rifle PG hunt many years ago

Don't look for sympathy here.
I joined in 2018 when found this site after winning my first safari.
Now 20 guns later and 6 safaris and who knows how much other stuff I'm addicted. These guys here are the best at helping you spend your money and very supportive in many ways. .

The enablers here are brutal! They could convince an Eskimo that he/she needed to buy more ice for refrigeration. LOL

Hell I spend 2-3 hours a night surfing gun sites and scheming about how to get an affordable DSB Mauser action in 404 Jeffery, with pretty wood. I passed on one in an auction a couple months ago and I’m KICKING myself!! Have a Cape buffalo hunt scheduled in Matetsi 2 in 2026 . . .

This is the only forum/social media site I've ever been a part of. And I have to say almost without exception, we have the most firearm/hunting informative/experienced/knowledgeable people WORLDWIDE here, despite the relentless enabling. LOL Great site!

There WILL be another one available at some point. Spend MORE time and keep looking. The enablers on here will gladly help you. LOL

Hello there. I’ve been wanting to introduce myself personally & chat with you about hunting Nilgai. Give me a call sometime…

Best,

+1 Great to deal with. I purchased custom rifle. No issues.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary

Booked with Harold Grinde - Gana River - they sure kill some good ones - who'd you get set up with?
