Now, more seriously, here is the dirty secret: much safari kit is purchased as a psychological compensation in lieu of going on safari. While some equipment is (supposedly) genuinely necessary, e.g. a DG caliber rifle to hunt DG, much else can be done in Africa with common deer / elk hunting equipment. And one could even emphasize that buying a DG rifle to shoot 2 or 5 DG in a lifetime is a bad investment compared to renting a rifle in Africa.
It is said that smarter people buy nothing and go on safari instead.....................
