I have owned 7 DRs in most popular calibers. I have not owned a 450 NE. I am reaching out asking if anyone interested in selling theirs? Thanks!!!

I just bought a John Rigby in 450 NE. I already got the Rigby ledger certificate 450 NE from Rigby which is always cool. It was built in 1906. It was recently rebarreled, reblued and the stock redone by T Page Wood of Bristol England. I now have everything to go with it. Just have to see if Trader Keith still makes #2 fillers otherwise have to cut my own open foam fillers. I saw an identical rifle, same caliber and Rigby in the same year and serial number also redone except not rebarreled like mine for 2.5 times what I paid on FI given I bought mine from an estate sale. As always it will be off to JJ Perodeau to check it out to make it mechanically perfect. Excited!

Here are some pictures. She is a plain lady but magnificent to me. She goes well with my 275 Highland stalker

I think another trip to Tsala Safaris for Cape Buffalo should be in order, you know a field test is the only proper way to test it out!

Congrats!! The DR looks to be in a great shape.

How do you guys find these estate sales with such nice firearms deals?

This may be you guy. His father was Earl of Leicester or Viscount Coke. THE HONOURABLE Commander (retired) Roger Coke, A.F.C., R.N. (28 December, 1886 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
OMG!!!! Only you could find my guy!!! I just said Earl because I don’t know what a Viscount is but this matches up perfectly!!! Many thanks my friend!!!!! Priceless to me!!!

First the best is by far @rookhawk bar none! It is hard to find estate sales however if you spend enough time on GI you will start to see people who seem to get estate sales. Then honestly it is just pure luck being in the right place at the right time. please don’t forget while I have learned T Page Wood in England is a very well respected company I am never comfortable until JJ Perodeau has taken it apart to make sure it is as mechanicaly perfect as possible. I will let everyone know after JJ reviews it

I also might add when you find one you have to be ready to buy knowing it will be gone soon. So here is exactly what I did…found the gun and seeing it was made by John Rigby I requested serial number and paid $75 to Rigby archive department who provided certificate within 24 hours. I then researched T Page Wood and found them to be a very well respected English shop. I asked for specific pictures and within two days made the decision to buy. I will let everyone know how JJ sees the gun plus any repairs he makes if needed given it is a good example of how I have bought 8 DRs

It is from Orvis in Vermont. I just saw it though it just went up on GI. Please do not hesitate to share your thoughts publically. JJ will be getting it to fix anything mechanically so I would so greatly appreciate your thoughts. It would be great for anyone to hear your thoughts given your incredible expertise!!!!

It was mechanically sound. Balance was a little off if memory serves, probably was a 28” barrel originally. Replacement barrels were of decent quality. Stock was original but heavily sanded and rounded. I think it was an extractor? Checkering recut. Engraving on action recut. Stock was a bit short but an oversized old English pad had been added? That’s what I remember. My in-laws are in Manchester, VT so I fondle most of Orvis’ wares when I head into town.

I thought it was a serviceable rifle. My biggest objection to it was they wanted silly money for it five years ago. Like $27,000? Sometimes things linger drastically overpriced at Orvis for long enough that a lowball offer wins the day. (Most people don’t have the lack of decorum to lowball against asking price, even if a gun is priced at double FMV…that’s how bargains can be found)

No collectibility or originality remains but I see no reason why it wouldn’t be a functional safari rifle with some history behind it.

You are so spot on as usual! Same gun. New barrels are 26 inches. Original 28 inch barrels which are too long for me. I was able to get it at a much lower cost than $27,000. much lower! As stated when I receive it off to JJ for anything needed. So appreciate your thoughts!!!!

I see a fine hippopotamus bull on land, in your near future.

Fantastic purchase, @Rare Breed . What loads will you be running through yours ? I highly recommend the Wim Degol 480Gr Vor Mantel & Star Mantel at an honest 2150 FPS.
