What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

It isn’t dead but is endangered— the 6.5x55. It can bee everything the newfangled 6.5s try to be.
Not even remotely endangered. It is the most popular cartridge in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland.

I love talking about calibers, their pros and cons, the situations to use them in, their history and so forth. Above all that I love collecting them! But one of the worst parts about the history of firearms and calibers, is that some seemingly great calibers die out.
Leaving those of us who want to use them scrambling to find brass and dies and the like.

So if you found a Genie in a bottle, what caliber or two would you get him to bring back into the mainstream?

For me it would be the 450NE (the 3 1/4") for DG, and the 350 Rigby for PG.
-It is criminal that the 450NE never came back to life after the ban.
-I think the 350 Rigby with modern loads and powders would be one of the great all

.333 Jeffery and .425 Westley Richards .577/600 NE

Some of us have, also thanks to Harald Wolf and the magazine HATARI TIMES, bringing back from the dead the cartridge 11,2x72 Schüler in recent years and are trying to keep it afloat, but it's very difficult and certainly will not have a future.
11,2x60 Schüler is enough for me.

40-60 Marlin ( = 40-65 Winchester). 45-70 case necked down to 40 caliber.

I’d definitely vote for the 318WR. It seems to perfectly fit the niche between the 300s and 366/375 without the need for a punishing magnum like 338WM.
True but I have 338/06 which does all the 30/06 work & most of the 9.3x62/338Win mag jobs !

Plus Great range of projectiles , cool old classic cartridge but 338/06 is modern equivalent, that with 35 Whelen & 9.3x62 have it covered, saying that I’d love one in a nice Westley Richards !

Indeed. In leu of the 318, I wouldn’t mind seeing the 338/06 become more standardized with some rifle and ammunition makers picking it up. I think it fills an otherwise empty niche.

The cartridge 7x66 S.E vom Hofe and especially the 9,3x64 Brenneke still have a following. Bringing them back from the dead is not necessary, rather preventing them from dying. The 7x66 is very much at risk, and with the 9,3x64, you never know. she was close to dying once, but has recovered somewhat. The problem also lies in the fact that everyone internationally is fixated on the marginal cartridge 9,3x62, although the cartridge 9,3x64 is superior and definitely more suitable for hunting dangerous game in Africa. Unfortunately, she has not the aura of the cartridge 9,3x62 and seems to be unknown to the majority.

In general, what was not reactivated did not demonstrate any clear advantages over other cartridges from the same period. This includes cartridges like the 318 WR or 350 Rigby. Ultimately, it's just a matter of personal passion to bring back from the dead an old cartridge.
Ever one I know that’s not a rifle guy that knows what the 9.3x62 is came form one place the razor dobbes hunting show

Brenneke make brass and ammo for 9,3x64

No idea who is US importer .

Yes indeed, both RWS and Brenneke still load it, and I have dies, brass, and bullets for two lifetimes...but as far as I know, there's no one single brand, that makes rifles in 9,3x64. So his destiny is already written my friend. And this is sad, because it's a wonderful cartridge, capable of everything a 375hh can do.

Define dead?

I wish the 358 Norma was readily available. It is mostly dead.

Both the 450 NE and 350 Rigby are more dead than the 358 Norma, but you can get ammo. No factory rifles made for any of the 3.

What makes it dead?

The new Rigby made a 350 not that long ago.

When I was in Kenya I was with Martin Seth-Smith, son of PH Tony Seth-Smith. Tony’s mom gave him a trio of Rigbys, a 275, 350, and 450 double. I got to handle the 450. Those rifles served him very well all his hunting days. They also served his mother (Kathleen) very well for all her hunting days. In my mind, those three rifles are THE trifecta of perfection when it comes to hunting.
