What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

I would like to add the 416 Taylor a great well balanced cartridge & not too much recoil & enough power, & fits in a std magnum action with easily made brass from 338 or 458 WIN MAG .
It has never been a factory round, has it? Great concept all the way!

318 Westley Richards would be an excellent choice. Light recoiling. Efficient. Designed for the effective heavy-for-caliber 250gr bullet. Fits in a mauser 98 action.

The problem is it will never happen. In order to launch a cartridge today it must fit in a short action. It also looks unimpressive in marketing literature to advertise a heavy for caliber load at a slower velocity...speed sells.
@rookhawk
Maybe I should contact federal, Ruger or Remington to get them to introduce a rimless version of my 25.
A mate just built one using my 25 rimmed reamer and is getting close to 4,000 fps with a 75 gn VMax, almost 3,900 fps with an 80gn outer edge monos and close on 3,600 with 100gn ballistic tips. I get 3,360 fps with a115-117 gn.
If'n speed sells that should sell well

Of course, my favorite caliber is the 9.3x64 Brenneke, which is the epitome of the all-purpose caliber.
Unfortunately, it's poorly distributed and poorly known, but it can fire from 154g to 325g.
The Austrian brand Voere still makes it in two rifles (Voere 2155 and Voere LBW Hunter on request).
Blaser R8 also made a few rifles, but they no longer do it (making .308 and .30-06 is more profitable...).
Heym is most certainly capable of making it.
Mauser (98) still had it in its catalog 7-8 years ago; I think it's possible to order it.
And the gunmakers. Not to mention the pre-owned weapons, including the fantastic Sauer 80-90, Mauser 66, M 98, Steyr Model S, Steyr M72, Heym SR20, Krico, Blaser R93, Sauer Weatherby Mark 5, Brno ZKK 600 etc.

I'm currently working on a custom project in this caliber based on an M 98 DWM 1909 Argentino

RWS, Brenneke, SHM, HDS and other brass manufacturers (USA, Australia, and Germany make it).
I didn't know Norma made 9.3x64?!

As for other calibers, I'm also thinking of... 6.5x63 Messner magnum (it is recent)
7x57
7x66 SE VH
7.65x53 arg
8x64s
333 jeffery/318 WR
9.3x65r
404 jeffery
475 NE no2 eley
476 NE WR
I like the way you think, but what is the 9..3X65R? Only one I never heard of.

@Just a dude in BC - I would bring back the 6.5 CREEDMORE, It’s Already DEAD BUT —-JUST DOESN’T KNOW IT !!! Pile it up next to all the “Short Magnums” from early 2000s and leave room for the soon-to be-departed 7PRC. That will leave us all with just 100-200 calibers to “make do”
What's ailing the PRC?

I’m definitely not cool. My Springfield 2020 Waypoint in 30-06 arrives to my FFL tomorrow. It was not originally released in long action; I guess it had to prove itself in all the cool chamberings before they could condescend to the 30-06
@Cooposo
Just tell the kids it's a new 300 creedmore. They will be all over you like a rash wanting to know more about it.
If'n y'all can dazzle em with science bamboozle em with bullshit. Works everytime.

I would like to see the the 6,5x53R brought back, I have a sporter that I built on that on the Homburg action. Its one of the most accurate rifles I have, low recoil very pleasant to shoot. Also the 9.5 x 57 as I just aquired a Mannlicher.
On that note does anyone have a empty Kynoch box for that caliber I could buy, Would like to have one or two to go with the rifle.
@Rolland
If my memory serves me correctly the 6.5x53R is the 25-35 wcf under a European name the same as the 22 Savage high power is the 5.56x 52 R by a different name.
I maybe wrong as usual tho

The 9.3x65r is a cartridge invented by Mr. Brenneke in 1927. It is the twin sister of the 9.3x64, but rimmed for break-action rifles (express, drilling, and derivative).
It is far superior to the excellent 9.3x74r, as is a 9.3x64 to a 9.3x62.
Brenneke liked to make it like this:
7x64-7x65r
8x64s-8x65rs
9.3x64-9.3x65r

Shouldn’t that be 25-20? A25-35 would be too long for a 92’

@Grumpy gumpy
It will fit just yank the lever a bit harder.
A good strong coffee and a plate full of Weetabix followed by a couple of good Bundy runs and you can make almost anything fit.
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha

Save this. You will need it.

Cartridges for der Mannlicher Schoenauer M1910 must be built to these precise specifications in order to feed properly.

Build them to spec and they will feed flawlessly through the Schoenauer magazine.

Built them otherwise and they will not.

I personally would like the original dangerous game cartridges to be revived! Of course I'm talking about the 8-bore and 4-bore.

I absolutely love my W.J. Jeffery 8-bore 3.25"! But the cartridge is beyond dead... Brass cases must be custom made using a lathe and bar stock. Bullets must be hand cast from custom made molds.

+1.

Almost. In the early ‘70s, Winchester and Ruger each built prototype rifles for the Taylor but Winchester never followed through with producing factory ammo, so it died as an “almost” mainstream cartridge.

.465 H&H
9.3x80 Collath
Rocky Gibbs .240, 6.5, .270 and .30 Gibbs wildcats
Bob’s @Bob Nelson 35Whelen .25 Samurai, 6.5RSE (Rising Sun Express) and .35BNE (Banzai Nelson Express) wildcats.

I believe Eduard Foá was a fan of the 8 bore and used a pair for his hunting enterprise.
