What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

Some of the cartridges I would like to see thriving aren't technically dead yet but it is definitely a challenge to find a new rifle chambered in any of them. I think my attraction to them is not only driven by my fondness for classic chamberings but also because some of them were never made in left-handed factory rifles so I knew I could only have one if I built it myself or had a custom made. A short list of of rifles I looked for over the years is below but I often settled for something else when I didn't have much luck finding something I liked at a good price:

257 Roberts
7x57
300 H&H
35 Whelen
404 Jeffery

Fortunately I could take one of my left-handed 30-06's and rebarrel it to some of those chamberings if I'm looking for a fun project to occupy my spare time. I really have everything I need so there's not much urgency to fill a void right now.

30 Newton--it was too far ahead of it's time. Bullet development at the time was not up to the speed.
465 Nitro--THE lowest chamber pressure of any double to my knowledge and a great killer.
+1 on the 350 Rigby--it was well spoken of by Taylor.
Someone help me--what was that skinny, rimmed 6mm round made for combination guns/drillings that just didn't sell? It should have, but then, I am not one to buy new in that market.

I only want the double rifle cartridges to come back AFTER I have gotten one for a steal due to ammo unavailability...

I’m doing my best to get the 280 Ross back on the map. And have a 318 build coming

I would like to see the the 6,5x53R brought back, I have a sporter that I built on that on the Homburg action. Its one of the most accurate rifles I have, low recoil very pleasant to shoot. Also the 9.5 x 57 as I just aquired a Mannlicher.
On that note does anyone have a empty Kynoch box for that caliber I could buy, Would like to have one or two to go with the rifle.

Yes indeed, both RWS and Brenneke still load it, and I have dies, brass, and bullets for two lifetimes...but as far as I know, there's no one single brand, that makes rifles in 9,3x64. So his destiny is already written my friend. And this is sad, because it's a wonderful cartridge, capable of everything a 375hh can do.

Of course, the 9.3x64 is a really great caliber. Too bad it's almost dead. A long time ago, I was choosing between it and the .375 H&H Mag. And I chose the .375 H&H Mag because it's much more common.

I have several Old Styer 6.5x53R & use same load as my 6.5x54 MS

Though mine is the 280 nitro express (same thing but English)
With modern powders and correct projectiles it outshines any of the modern 7/8 mm magnums

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the 280 Ross the samething as a 280NE? My understanding is that the 7mm Remington will out perform that cartridge. Given the 280 NE was ahead of its time.

Shame on each and all of you. If these cartridges are dead then I have quite a few zombies.

450 NE is still factory loaded by Hornady, I believe. Hendershot’s shows 318 WR available, although it’s quite dear, and brass is pretty simple to resize from 30/06. Brass, dies and bullets are readily available for the 350 Rigby, and I anticipate some factory availability soon as I understand Rigby is offering that again in new rifles. I shoot quite a bit of each of these, as well as 333 Jeffery, 425 WR and 280 rimless NE, all which requires even more resourcefulness as neither brass or bullet is widely available.

The 6.5 kurz mauser is a little known cartridge than was truly ahead of it’s time. It took a hundred years and a dramatic rise in the popularity of manbuns for its twin to be successful.

The 242 rimless nitro express/Vickers/Manton couldn’t do everything the 243 can’t do, decades earlier.

The 275 H&H magnum was a 375 H&H case necked down to 7mm and shortened to 2.5”, which sounds a lot like a popular Remington round.

Well cared for, rifles can last generations, and with the exception of optics, be as relevant as they were three generations ago. It’s only natural for these companies to introduce “new” cartridges to drive the sale of new rifles. It’s one reason I like to reload and just stay out of that cycle.

@375Fox My hunting partner and I @BC Tal both have 300 h&h that we bought for the nostalgia. Mine in ruger no.1, and his in a custom M70 that he used to take a nice Eland. We are doing our part to keep it alive!
Nostalgia yes, but performance first. Using a 300 H&H for plains game in Africa ticked both boxes.
300 H&H is not dead, but it is on life support.
Just look at those beauties, Norma brass stuffed with Vihtavuori powder and Northfork semi spitzers.

Do you load woodleigh 160 or 175’s?

7x66 Vom Hofe Super Express.
@Phil Giordano Yes!
I went down a rabbit hole theoretically building a 7x66 Vom Hofe SE, but it just didn't seem anywhere near realistic. But what a cartridge, super fast, accurate, a killer name and connected to 300 H&H via it's predecessor the 7x73.

1) that’s why I said "same thing but English " , also the same as 280 halger magnum, but German
2) "modern powders and projectiles "
