No reloading this week, instead gonna be testing a box of GECO Plus bonded 255 grain 9.3x62mm factory ammo. I sorted them by OAL and will take the 5 longest to the range.

The box says 2,550 fps MV. We'll soon know how that shakes out...

Reloading new cartridges would be great, but I‘m short of powder!
No Hodgon H4895 available here anymore! All US Powders are rare these days! Think about settling on Vithavuori N140 as Allrounder for 308, 9,3x62, 425 Express and 458 Win! Ukraine war makes all gun powder a very much asked product!

Ach ja, its sad! H4895 was doing very well for me and made all easy real long time, I hope N140 is coming nearby in performance and flexibility, that I dont have to store 5 different powders in my storage,
Wish me luck!

Besides, does anybody of You guys has experience with Vitha N140?

I find N140 a kissing cousin to Varget. If you luv H4895, then consider N530, though being a 500-class powder, is double based.

Though a little nitro through the barrel now and then is no harm, no foul. Just not a steady diet.

Loading for 9.3x62: Hammer 242gr HHT with IMR 3031is showing some promise. It’s OAL is 3.505”. A little long for most 9.3x62 actions but my R8 eats them fine. Hope to go out this weekend to finish up.

With the CX, 250 gr 375 H&H, do you recommend crimping or not?

Finished up a batch of 350 rounds of 45 Colt ammo....
250gr. RN/FP
6gr. 700X
Wolf LP

Next run...
1500 rounds of...
.45 Colt
Speer 250gr. Swaged SWC
6.5gr. of Win. 231
CCI # 300 LPs

Love this second load !

I've used VVN140 in .308 for standard 165 gr. loads and for light bullets 220-235gr. in 9.3x62. No surprises, no concerns. Velocities were about what was predicted by the VV website load data.

Been shooting the Snider quite a bit lately- decent weather last couple weeks. But turned “blizzardy”yesterday, running low on 577 Snider bullets so cast and lubed some to replenish the supply.

Just loaded up my 2025 Hunting bullets;
----------------------------------------------------------------
6.5 Rem Mag - 140 Accubonds (200)
350 Rem Mag - 250 Partitions (200)
7.62X57 HC - 180 NBT (150)
.375 WSM - 235 TSX/300 SBT (100 ea)
- 235 SHC (200)
.458 WM - 350 RN reduced (150)
- 500 DGX (100)

That should do it for the 2025 season, last year's leftovers will be burned at the range getting ready for each hunt.

In the past I have monkeyed with “conventional” duplex loading for some BP cartridges in suitable guns. By conventional duplex I mean using a tiny charge of smokeless under a normal BP charge. The biggest advantage seen is cleaner burn. I noticed little or no measurable change in accuracy or velocity.

Occasionally I revisit loading (tinkering with :)) some various, large volume BP cartridges. Sometimes, when testing common, low pressure smokeless loads, I have noticed short but discernible hangfires. Research about this lead me to an obscure technique called the “Russian duplex”.

Recently, I’ve had great success using a Russian duplex with one load that used a normal charge of 34 gr of either 4759 or 5744 that duplicated BP ballistics in a particular BP cartridge. The Russian duplex load, tested several times now, has eliminated 100% of all hangfires while maintaining same accuracy and velocity. 5 gr of FFF BP under 30 gr of 5744 appears to yield equivalent ballistics to 34 gr of 5744… all other things being equal.

I would not recommend smokeless or any duplex loads for older muzzleloaders or BP cartridge guns originally of iron or lower grade steel. Some later BP cartridge guns are strong enough and have been shot with smokeless ammo for years. Examples would include many of the old BP cartridge guns originally loaded with BP but began shooting “Nitro” ammo after smokeless was developed. In the US, examples would be 45-70 in the Trapdoor or similar BP cartridges in Winchester lever 1886s, etc.

Started loading the 320 gr. Weldcore for the 9.3mm Mauser.
Looking to find a balance between SAAMI .30-06 MAP, 2,200+ MV, and somewhere between 90% - 95% load density. Starting out with H4895.

After that, looking to rinse, repeat with the 325 gr. Oryx.

Going to start working on 180 gr CEB Maximus in 30-06. Has anyone else used these?

Nugget here. A guide gave me the nickname as I looked similar to Nugent at the time. Hunting for over 50 years yet I am new to hunting in another country and its inherent game species. I plan to do archery. I have not yet ruled out the long iron as a tag-along for a stalk. I am still deciding on a short list of game. Not a marksman but better than average with powder and string.

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
