ZAMBIA: Classic Sable, Classic Caliber Hunt With spike.t At Takeri Reserve Zambia

Crap, sorry to hear that. Get well!

Sorry for the bad luck, but Thank Goodness the injuries were not worse.

So sad to hear about your fall. Hope your recovery is quick and complete. You will be back out hunting before you know it.

man, that sucks! sorry this happened to you and hope that you make a full recovery and end up with the sable of a lifetime.

Life does throw curve balls and you caught this one. As you said bummer to be out of the hunts for right now but you are extremely lucky man. Prayers for a quick recovery

What a pain in the back….. literally. So sorry to hear about your fall. Glad you were able to start the rescheduling process. Your sable will wait. Mike will still be there with all the booze you could want.
Glad it wasn’t worse. I’ll make a suggestion. Hire out whatever requires ladders in the future….. Best of luck on your recovery.
Bruce

Am just glad that the outcome was better than what seemed like had happened to you from the first message I got from your wife when I turned my phone on that morning .....keeping those later dates for you if you recover in time...if not next year isn't too far away....so no stressing... (y) :D Beers:

Brutal. Don't mess around with your back. Do the PT and rest as necessary. Africa will be there waiting for you.

Hate to hear about the accident. Get healed up soon!

Look forward to reading about this report in a few months.

I was eagerly following this thread due to the sable and 7x57 hunt, but damn. Very happy to hear your injuries are currently manageable and get better asap, looking forward to reading about this postponed hunt

Man, that’s terrible news. Glad you will heal ok.

As Gillettehunter mentioned. Ladders are bad news. But please. Never cut tree limbs or trees from a ladder.

I hate hearing this but I'm glad the injury wasn't as bad as it could have been. Still sucks but it will make the trip up to @spike.t place all the sweeter.
If you end up pushing it to next year and depending on the month we might even meetup going or coming.
All the best and take the time to heal properly!
You'll be back in the saddle before you know it.

Very sad to hear about this injury but glad that it is not too serious. The price to pay for this fall not having graver consequences being only a postponement of your trip, is one I’m sure you are happy to pay.

Get well soon!

Sometimes life throws you a curve ball and you have to deal with it. Sometimes, you shoot yourself in the foot and wonder how you managed to do that.

This past Saturday I up on a 16 ft extension ladder, trimming a tree. I was probably 10 ft off of the ground and managed to fall, landing on my back like a big time wrestler. My wife witnessed the fall and came to my aid. I could tell I was seriously hurt, but was conscious the entire time. She then phoned a neighbor who is an ER doc. He came over and checked me out and called 911. I got to ride in the fire department ambulance to the local ER. After x-rays and CT scan, I was told I had two fractured vertebrae. I was then transferred by another ambulance to the trauma center and got to spend two days at that facility. Had a MRI done (really loud event where they give you earplugs). Doctors determined surgery was not needed, but I need to where a brace for 6-8 weeks.

So my daughter and I will not be getting on the plane tomorrow to start our Zambia adventure.

I called the Delta Gold Elite number and in 2 minutes had my flights cancelled and miles recredited to my account. This was almost too easy!

Sent a WhatsApp message to Mike and we are working on new dates, hopefully later this year.

Emailed Henry at Rifle Permits and told them of the cancellation and got a quick reply from them.

Sent a note to @TRAVEL EXPRESS and Jennifer cancelled all the reservations. Airlink does not make refunds, but they do create credits for future flights. Hopefully I will use them in 2-3 months.

While my accident was bad and quite painful, I am thankful to be alive, not paralyzed, and not having to have surgery. While my hunt to Takeri is simply postponed to a later date, I am regrettably going to forgo my Montana archery elk trip for September. That's a physically demanding hunt and I just know I won't be able to do it.

To be continued...............
Sorry to hear the news of your fall but glad to hear the outcome is better than initially thought when Mike messaged me.

We will be here and we will be waiting. As soon as you’re ready to make the trip, we will get back on track and have a great time.

Until then, rest up and take it easy.

I’m looking forward to the hunt when you do get out here.

So sorry to hear about the accident and am praying for your speedy recovery. No comparison at all but I broke my toe the day before leaving on Safari once, made walking a bit uncomfortable. Since then, I am very careful the weeks leading up to a hunt and try to avoid any activity that could possibly lead to an injury.

Looking forward to the report once y'all get there and start having fun!

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.
