ZAMBIA: Classic Sable, Classic Caliber Hunt With spike.t At Takeri Reserve Zambia

Didn't expect THAT post.....for sure; what a downer. Good luck with your recovery process.......best leave the aerial work to others for awhile... heal up for that sable.....and that special hunt with your daughter................FWB

The do-over starts tomorrow. My back has healed up fairly well from my accident two months ago. Thankfully Mike (@spike.t ) and @PeteG could reschedule us for late Sept and early Oct.

I missed this whole thread till just now! Sure sorry to hear about the back injury, many of us have had them to one degree or another.
I sure hope you get to make that hunt when you are able, meantime take it easy and heal up.
Sounds like it will be a blast when it does happen.

Good luck.

Glad to hear you’re feeling better. Good luck on your hunt, I’m looking forward to a hunt report. I’m hoping my kids will want to come with me when they get older.

We are flying on Delta today. Just noticed that yesterday's Delta 200 took off and flew a few hours and turned around and landed back at Atlanta. Looks like they went out over the ocean and dumped fuel, then returned.

Looks like they didn’t want to fly through that storm and not enough fuel to fly around it. Did you ever hear an explanation? Hopefully y’all will get out today!

They know the flight path, they could have delayed the flight to avoid the storm. I certainly hope you make your flight today and on time.

Update from Joberg

We learned the reason for the Delta 200 flight turnaround and cancellation from the night before our flight. It was a medical emergency and upon returning the crew timed out.

Luckily, our Delta 200 departed on time Thursday night. We flew down the coast of Brazil before turning east. We had 50-90 mph tailwinds and arrived JNB at 6:30pm local, about 30 minutes early.

The immigration line was slow slow due to some computer problems. We were near the front of a very long line and it took us 2 hours to get through. Our bags were waiting for us, already unloaded off the carousel. We went out into the arrival area and a representative from @Riflepermits met us and took us to the SAPS office. There were probably 20 rifle cases lined up and a couple other guys waiting there. We grabbed our case, unlocked it, the serial number was verified and we were good to go. They did not check the ammunition box.

Walked over to the City Lodge and got checked in. Went to the restaurant for a light dinner and then it was a shower and go to bed around 10pm.

We have an 11:30am flight today (Saturday) for the 2 hour trip to Lusaka. We opted not to take the 6am and not be rushed. It’s nice to be retired and not having to be in a rush due to limited vacation time. We’ll spend one night in Lusaka and start the 5 hour drive to Takeri with @spiket early Sunday morning.

Enjoy the travels and wish you straight and good shooting.
Look forward to updates as time allowes.

That is a nice relaxed pace to take for your travels.

Glad you made it over ok. Being able to travel at a slower pace and not be pressed for time sounds wonderful. It should help with getting over the jet lag. Best of luck on your safari and looking forward to seeing how it unfolds.

Very sorry to hear of your fall and injury but it sounds like you’re back in the saddle. Good luck to you and your daughter on your Safari!

Just finished an amazing week at Takeri and just arrived back at Lusaka. We will spend a leisurely day on Monday in town and then fly to Joburg Tuesday. Get on Delta 201 Tuesday night and arrive Atlanta on Wednesday morning. Hope to get started with the final report but I really don’t like working off my phone.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.
