9.3x64 brass is insanely difficult to come by in the US. 9.3x64 rifles here, unless you get bespoke one, are unicorns.

Not planning to buy a 9.3 at any point in the near future if ever as already have 375 still I have really liked the designs of the 35 whelen and 9.3x62 not sure why maybe because they seem so utilitarian and efficient. From what I could find on the internet Sako is a premium priced product compared to the old cz 550 winchester model 70 and others of the like. It looks like the Sako is one of the few left producing factory rifles in the Cartridge. CZ no longer produces the 550 series. Haven't check SAUER's website they may still be offering in 9.3

Just thinkin'; if you're going to Afrika for Buffalo, D/G, and have a 9.3X62 as your "heavy", before you leave, ask your PH for his opinion. If he says "No", hire/borrow something heavier, he'll have access to something suitable, and he'll give you the opportunity to familiarise yourself with it.
If you need to buy a rifle, get something bigger/heavier, and PRACTICE with it beforehand.
Commonsense??? No need for all these argument/discussions, fun as they are ...

Who currently offers a 9.3x62 chambered rifle in factory configuration that you all would recommend? I wish Winchester did in the Model 70 but wont hold my breath waiting for that to happen.....

Zastava M70 is available both right and left hand M98 action. The stocks are poorly finished but metal work is great. I refinished mine with ebony forend tip and grip cap then did a hand rubbed oil finish. looks like a different rifle. Same action Remington used on their 798, MK 10, Whitworth rifles and Charles Daly if memory serves correct. No regrets picking up that rifle and the price is dirt cheap!!

I have a Zastava in 9.3x62. Not the prettiest gun in the world, and like CZ, needs a bit of expert attention when you buy one. But it shoots straight.

I wouldn't go any shorter than a 22", 600 mm would be better if you can get it.

As others have said, many versions of the Sako 85 can be chambered in the cartridge, though you don't see many (if any) in stock these days.

Another option that hasn't been mentioned: Steyr Mannlicher offers factory models in 9.3x62. I believe both the SM12 and CLII can be chambered in it, though they are not always easy to come by stateside. I recently picked up a full stock/stutzen Steyr SM12 in 9.3x62, but I had to special order it and wait on it. There aren't a ton of them coming ashore these days. Like the Sakos, they are also at a more premium price point.

EDIT: I just checked the Steyr website. On the product page, they list the SM12 as "Out of Stock". Not sure what that means; could be as innocuous as they don't have any in inventory right now, or might mean they don't plan to make more. Not sure. EDIT 2: There are some 9.3x62 chambered rifles in stock on GunBroker, and they're all over the place on price. From the $10-20K Rigbys to a $1000 (hideous-looking) Savage. Also a Ruger m77 Hawkeye and a really nice new/old stock CZ550 FS! Last year I purchased a Blaser R8 barrel in 9.3x62 for my daughter to use on hippo.

I know that such stats probably don't exist, but I wouldn't find it hard to believe that the 9.3x62 has probably killed more African game than any other caliber--at least in the so-called golden age of safaris. Readily-available, inexpensive Mauser rifles sold in modest dry-good stores in towns like Arusha, Nairobi, Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg, together with the fantastic German H-shaped bullets, gave ranchers and sportsmen a first-class gun at a fraction of the price of an English equivalent.

I would love to eventually buy myself one and take it on safari.

Nhoro, you seem to be right, however nobody cares whether legal or not legal. Three years ago I hunted buffalo in Zim, using my 9.3x74R, this May I gonna hunt in Zimbabwe again. Both very well known outfitters said "You are very welcome using your 9.3x74R.

Yup, he is ex-Zimbabwean and knows the law. And your PH's also know the law but mix that with a little Zimbabwean local knowledge. National Parks don't have a chronograph and I very much doubt they have the firearms knowledge to question you. So you can operate in the grey areas. But you just need one clever National Parks guy with Google and your hunting trip may cost you a little more than you bargained for. So I will say it again, 9,3 x62 and 74 R are not legal for buffalo and elephant in Zimbabwe unless you handload to the correct specs. Capable -Yes, no arguement but legal -no.

Hi Tanks, of course-even the .375 is marginal for Elefant. I just wanted to state that the 9,3x62 does not have enough steam and a solution is there for the 9.3 enthusiasts.
I shot my Buffaloes and Elefants either with a .500 NE Double or the . 458 Lott
