Bob Nelson convinced me - 35 Whelen

the 35 whelen can be used on all animals in the greater USA and close to 99 precent of african animals. whats not to like, good bullets and very cheap cases(recycled 3006). i wonder if we could get him to build- buy a second 35 whelen? my three whelens are a ruger#1-a van patton custom(98 auction)-and a remington custom deluxe 700.

I feel kind of odd here. I do own a Whelen, Ruger Hawkeye stainless dropped in a boyds laminated stock.
I've killed 1 moose in Canada, 1 whitetail deer in Texas, 1 antelope in Wyoming, and 1 turkey in Texas with it.
But I also have a .243 hidden in the back of the safe.

@Wade J VanGinkel
Mate keep the 243 in the back of the safe or give it to someone t oh really dislike. The Ruger Hawkeye is a nice rifle.
Bob

my only 243 caliber rifle is a old remington 722 in 244, that i only have is because i collect remington 721-722 rifles. i like my remington 722 in 257 roberts much better.
@leslie hetrick
At least it's a 244/ 6mm Remington not a pissant 243 wimpchester.
Most likely if I ever join your .35 “club” it’ll be .358 Winchester, a .358 Winchester model 99 savage is on my list.
@Skinnersblade
That's a start of membership mate

The .358 barrel with 1:12 twist should arrive tomorrow.
The stock was dropped at the UPS office 2 hours ago.
I have a magpul stock that I can use for load development and fooling around with until the walnut stock is done.

We are on track.

Meanwhile, another .270 arrived in the mail today....

Just remember. The 358 Winchester is just a 243 necked up a bit. Hahaha!
Given that you’ve owned everything from blunderbusses to bazookas Toby there must of been a .243 cross your bench at sometime?

doe shot with my rem 722 in 257 roberts at close to 140 yards with a hornady117 gr sst bullet at 2900 fps.

Good to see it is loaded properly instead of the anemic factory load of around 2,650fps. Love the SST performance especially at 3,300 out of my 25. Nice deer to go with the old rifle
You've gotta love the 25s

I can see that barrel coming off and a nice 26" 25 ought six barrel in your future.

Yes sir! My first deer rifle that my dad gave me is still in my safe today. It's a Remington 700 BDL from the 1970s. I've killed many deer with it over the years.

I came up with a perfect name for your cult bob... there’s just one small problem apparently the odd fellows is already taken.

im only stirring it up because I’m not a member of the .358 club closest I can come is .366
Yes getting within spitting distance my friend. Be very careful or you will get sudden cravings for a BLR in 358. The force is strong in that one.

Nope that’s no threat, the BLR doesn’t fit me I’ve handled a few and there awkward.

That's a wrap, on our first hunt of this years season.

Hunting conditions are a bit tougher in South Africa during the month of February, but can be just as rewarding if done right.
