New guy planning for 2024

10- 14 days with days for sightseeing as well. She does not hunt but will be with me.
One thing I did last year was to take my girlfriend with me. We spent 3 days at Hwange National Park and another 3 days at Victoria Falls National Park (Old Drift Lodge) after that she went home and I went hunting.

Giday AuthorBrian and welcome to the A H forums.

I also hunted with Russ Broom in 2002. Two buff and a leopard. I recently hunted with Nkwe Safaris and Jaco Visser. If big kudu and gemsbok are at the top of your list I would give them serious consideration. Please read my hunt report. New lodge and hunting area next year by Kalahari game reserve. Anyways you could tour the Kalahari game reserve for a day or so and then drive up to Shakawe and do the Bwabwata National Park just across border in the Caprivi. Cruise on the Okavango river as well as drive the park. Jaco knows the areas well. Some cool things to see near Shakawe. Good luck planning.

Welcome to AH AuthorBrian!

CMS at Nyakasanga, Zimbabwe. Here is a picture of the Kudu I got there last August in addition to elephant, buffalo, hyena, zebra, warthog and gemsbuck. Same area also have plenty of tuskless elephants and buffalo and other plains game. They are one of the most reliable outfitters around and were SCI outfitter of the year a couple of years ago. http://www.cmsafaris.com

Wow…60+?

Wow…60+?
No, 59 5/8". Largest ever hunted in the area. Measured multiple times, guys were joking that if we had a South African PH measuring tape that started at 1" or 2" it would have been over 60". :ROFLMAO:

All my Zimbabwe trophies except elephants from the last two years cleared customs and arrived at my taxidermist a couple of weeks ago. I am still overseas, so will need to call them and discuss poses, mounts etc. when I get back.

Welcome to AH!! You have received several great recommendations for your hunt. Good luck with the planning and I am sure you will have a great hunt.

I hunted Zimbabwe back in 96’ with Russ Broom. Took a nice buffalo. Life got in the way but now I have the time to go back in 2024. I’m looking for recommendations for a quality fair chase plains game hunt (didn’t get kudu or gemsbok in 96’). Reliable outfitter with a proven track record is a must. Open to any country. Will be accompanied by my wife.
Thanks!
For that trip I can’t imagine a better place than @Kowas Adventure Safaris.
There are lots of reports here for them including my own from 2021. Great Kudu, Oryx, Eland, Mountain Zebra and other Namibia plains game with a great family and great camp.
Enjoy the planning and look forward to your report wherever you decide on.

Hello Mr Brian,

Welcome and I certainly have areas that will fit your request. We only hunt large areas and mostly on foot spot and stalking.

Would be more than happy to send you a estimate on what you are looking for.

All my best,

Jacques

I recently hunted with NKWE in Botswana and it was everything I wanted out of an authentic traditional African Safari. Best of all…I didn’t run into other hunters in the field or have to de conflict with other groups. Jaco is a first rate PH with prime habitat that’s exclusive to his use. Cost was very reasonable too.

Hi Brian

Welcome to AH.

Would love to chat to you some more on options that will be best for you and your wife.

We have a few good areas with Kudu and Gemsbuck as your main animals.

Regards

Rouan

Welcome to the posting side! Have fun planning and let us know if you have any questions or if you need any assistance with the rifle import permits, we would be glad to assist you with that.

I would recommend attending DSC or SCI to pick the outfitter and location you are interested in. Since you have hunted Zim you may want to consider that again depending in budget. On the game ranch side please ask about contiguous acreage. Don't get taken!
also check out my YouTube videos in the Safari Planning section as well as online for safari planning advice.
have fun with the planning and feel free to reach out for any questions I can help with.

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
