New Lipseys M77 .35 Whelen

I somehow missed your point here... are you saying you are getting 2940 with 225's in the Whelen? How the heck are you doing that? I think a PM is in order. Thanks, Bob.
@hoytcanon
I get almost 2,900fos with the 225 Sierra GKBTSP and over 2,900 with Woodleigh 225gn PPSP. As well as over 2,800 with the 225gn accubond.
Plenty fast enough for me
Top that off with 310gn at 2,440fps.

Nice... so your 225 Accuvond load is 340 fps slower than the .358-375, that makes sense with the large disparity in case capacity. I love the Whelen too, I've taken alot of game using the 250 Partition... this new Ruger African .35 Whelen loaded full-up with the 250 Part on top, would be a terrific PG rig.

I recently started working with Hammer bullets in the .35 Whelen. Still working the load but I got 2760fps from a 245gr Shock Hammer using 2000MR.
@Deepfork
Man that's humpin
Wish I could get that powder in Australia.
What's your load and barrel twist.
Bob

Just be care with the partition at those speeds.
A 249 gn Hammer bullet or a 225gn TTSX would hold together better.
Even at my Whelen velocities game went down hard with one shot.

I'll get the load data for you when I get home this evening, my rifle is 1 in 14 twist. I will say I am also working with CFE223 with this bullet and it might end up better than the 2000MR. I am pretty much out of room in the case with the 2760fps 2000MR load even though I am not getting pressure signs. My last load with the CFE223 was 2725fps, no pressure signs and plenty of room for powder.

Are you saying the 44801 can't handle 2900 fps?

The TSX/TTSX hold together too good, total unimpressive terminal performance, except for bone breaking.

I just ordered some 220 grain Hammers to work up. I have 258 Hammers for my 9.3 so I figured 245 grain was closer than I needed for variety.

Here you go Bob:

RP 35 Whelen Brass
WLRM Primers
.358 245gr Hammer Bullets - Shock Hammer
66.1gr 2000MR (Slightly compressed Load)
COL 3.305
6 shots average 2760fps. (17fps deviation)
23in barrel, 1/14 twist

As I said still working on this load. My last try with CFE223 everything the same as above except 63.2gr of CFE223 for 2725fps. No pressure indicators plenty of room for more powder.

One other note on the .358 245gr Shock hammer bullets. I weighed 30 of them and they are incredibly consistent, but they only weigh 241gr.

Velocities like that certainly turn the Weekend into a different beast.
It will have @hoytcanon wondering what we are doing. It ain't to far behind his big 35/375ruger

@hoytcanon
The 225gn Woodleigh will handle a muzzle velocity of 2,950fps and an impact velocity of over 2,700fos and still retain 70% of its weight after breaking both shoulder of a big zebra stallion. This is above the projectiles recommended parameters
Bob

Tell us about your collection...calibers?

That group is a collection of M77 Mark II RLS Carbines with 18.5" barrels in .243, .30/06 and .358 Win, the bottom rifle is a 7x64 Brenneke.
The second picture posted are an M77 Mark II RSM in .375 H&H, an M77 Mark II Express converted to .35 Whelen and an M77 African in .375 Ruger. I also like the Ruger No.1 rifles, and mostly hunt with Stainless M77's for the most part.

No, I can comfortable get to 2800 with the 225 Accubonds, just not 2940... that is pushing 3900+ pounds of energy, but the .358-375 is close to a 5000 pound gun, and fast. I use CFE-223 in a few cartridges, might experiment a bit in the Whelen.

I love the Ruger Mark II rifles. Best guns they built. I have all the Express and RSM models except for the 25-06. Very envious of your .358 Win and that custom 35 Whelen;)

I do have a 7x64 Brenneke. And my crown jewel in an RSM re bored to 505 Gibbs:)

I had a monstrous collection of Ruger rifles at one point, like your I had the full series of Express and Safari Magnums, including the .25/06. However a few years back I had an epiphany and changed my priority from rifles to experiences, not that I was much lacking in experiences, but the rifle obsession did hold me back somewhat. I sold most stuff off... I kept my converted Express, now a .35 Whelen, an RSM .375 H&H and an RSM .458 Lott. I have a bunch of boring lesser rifles in M77 Mark II RS and RLS versions, and a few M77 Mark II Stainless rifles that are mostly what gets hunted... still love my Ruger's... they have never failed me and the ergonomics are perfect for me.

Does anyone have one to measure the barrel diameter at the muzzle? I am mostly curious as the muzzle on my Ruger No.1 S medium 24" barrel .35 Whelen measures .675", and I wonder if the new bolt gun is the medium weight or standard.

TIA!

The muzzle on my Savage Whelen is .7. Wish I had gone to .65 to save some weight
