Gert, you are the MAN, to be able to put together something like this every year!

Sierraone, thank you for the compliment, it is much appreciated. I really enjoy organising these events. Sometime in the future I will be conducting similar hunts where we actually trek with two ox wagons through a big game ranch to hunt and live like this for at least two weeks. I discussed this with Willie Barnard and Johan Greyling..we will be using two freight ox wagons with six oxen in front of each wagon. Horses needs to be part of the event where we use horses to hunt with. I really think there will be hunters who are interested in this type of hunt.(y)(y)

Looks like you folks had a fine time in camp. No question that you ate well off the land. Thank you for sharing the report and pictures.

Gert, thanks for sharing this with us. I love history and this kind of stuff really interests me.

I may have to come join you guys in the future!

Hallo Jason, any hunter from another country is more than welcome to attend this hunt. We really would like hunters from abroad to join us in this hunt.(y)(y) Just let me know about a month or two beforehand so I can organise all necessary proviand/bedding /tent to be use for a hunter...

Thank you for the invite! I'm booked pretty solid through next year, but we can look at 2019 as it gets closer.

Excellent Jason, we will have black powder this side..just bring your rifle /re-loading components...what muzzle loader do you have???

I don't have one but this would be a good excuse to get into muzzle loaders.

Jason, this is what this type of hunt is about..to hunt with old/replica black powder muzzle loaders, live like the old Boer hunters did...(y)

Gert, awesome adventure as always. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I found Clive's books years ago and learned plenty from them. Great information.

Thank you Wayne, I enjoy sharing this hunt , since it really is a special occasion...

I see you guys even had a wagon. Was it brought to the event with horses or oxen?

Caustin
The ox wagon or Kakebeen ossewa in Afrikaans , has been build by Herman Nel from scratch...we upload the ox wagon on a trailer and tow it to camp. We are currently rearing /training young calves to be oxen...for future treks with the ox wagons on twee week long hunts ...(y)(y)

Sir my complements to Mr. Herman Nel on his skill to build such a wagon.
Good luck on training the Oxen.

CAustin, if you start training the young calves at an early age..it really is not that difficult to train them to be oxen. It takes about five to six years for these animals to be grown oxen..all it takes is a lot of attention and dedication...(y)(y)

Just been reading one of Selous' books, the distances that man travelled with an oxen team was pretty amazing.

I always love your trip reports. Quite the crew you have there. Makes for a good time around the campfire at nights. Thanks for sharing. Looks to be a great time and well thought out. Bruce

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
